The post where I waffle and you fall asleep.

 Another finish........and another free motion quilting close shave! Did I mention that I quilted myself to my last quilt?  I was running the needle so fast it went through the fleshy bit at the side of my nail twice before I realised what was happening, then everything stopped rather abruptly as the needle broke on my nail. I like to think I was just  in the zone, rather then being extremely dim!

Anyway, this quilt (more of a bed runner, in truth) is a half square triangle project. I admit to being slightly addicted to half square triangles - I've found myself falling asleep and wondering what other patterns could I make? How many variations are there? Could they eventually become self aware and design themselves? Who knows - I do know that this won't be my last HSQ quilt.

I also wanted to record for my own poor memory what I quilted this  latest quilt with because it was a damn fine cotton thread. I've heard quite a lot about aurifil recently and have used it to see what all the fuss was about, my feeling was that it was ok - still produced some lint and snapped a couple of times but overall was better then the Gutermann 100% cotton which knotted on the back of the quilt as I went along and was generally a pain in the... So, the Aurifil was ok, but I didn't think, wow, this is just the best thread ever. 

So when I ordered my latest lot of wadding I decided to try something different, and cost being an issue, settled on the Presencia Finca 60/3 weight thread in colour 216. This was £4.15 for 600 metres, compared to the Aurifil 50/2 which I had used previously, costing £6.95 for 1300 metres, so was a shade more costly. Yes, it is slightly more expensive, but wow. Wow. You can really tell the difference - it is truly, virtually lint free, is incredibly strong, and has quilted evenly throughout despite trying different  designs. So I will definitely be ordering this thread again for free motion quilting! (Long story short.)

Now, I'm back to the wailing and gnashing of teeth that accompanies the decision - which quilt next? It may require wine.
